Tamora Pierce is a renowned writer of young adult fantasy with several fantastic books to her name. She is the author of such series as Song of the Lioness, Circle of Magic, Protector of the Small, and many more.
Pierce is a literary hero of mine due to her strong female leads, captivating characters, and spellbinding tales that hook you from start to finish, leaving you wanting more.
I first discovered her books when I was in middle school. For one of my classes, I had to pick a book and do a project on it (I believe both written and creative). While I don’t remember the written portion, I transformed the book into a board game for the creative part.
I journeyed to my local library and searched the shelves for a book that would keep my attention since back then I wasn’t really into books as I am now. The book I finally came across was Daja’s Book. Based on the summary inside, it seemed a decent enough and worth reading, so I left the library unknowing that my life was about to drastically change.
Daja’s Book turned out to be an incredible story (read a Goodreads summary here). I was thoroughly moved by the book and felt I had been invited into a world beyond anything I could ever imagine. I wanted to stay in that world and learn more about the characters. Lucky for me, this was the third book in the Circle of Magic quartet – I did not know that at the time – so I hurried back to the library for the first book.
And so began a turning point in my life. Afterwards, I became the devoted reader I am today. I read story after story and have nearly read all of Pierce’s books. I love the way she crafts her stories and the fantastical world in which they reside in. She has written several of my favorite books of all time like Lioness Rampant, Trickster’s Queen, Wild Magic, and Mastiff. Pierce has been a major influence in my life and has inspired me to try my hand at writing a novel.
I highly recommend any of Pierce’s books for young adults or anyone who enjoys that genre. If you would like to learn more about Pierce you can click here for additional information.
