Summary (via NetGalley):
Since her parents passed away, Virginia has been raising her sister alone while going to culinary school. One day at work, she finds a lost wallet and contacts the owner, who offers her a reward of five hundred dollars or a magic lamp. Virginia is intrigued by the lamp but sets aside her curiosity to make the sensible choice—cash. But when she meets the wallet owner’s son, Wilder, she is immediately infatuated with him. He’s the CEO of a computer company and stunningly handsome… Perhaps she should choose the lamp after all—her first wish would be to see Wilder again!
Note: I have never read the original novel, only this manga adaptation.
Wishes was such a cute story. It’s short, sweet, and to the point. What enticed me to request this title was the inciting incident: a lost wallet leads to a reward of $500 or a magic lamp, which subsequently leads to love. How interesting! I like Virginia’s character a lot. She’s strong, a real go-getter, determined, and a hopeless romantic. Wilder’s character is a bit flat and seen-before but I still liked his presence in the story. I might read the full length novel someday because I had a positive reading experience with the manga.
