June Wrap-Up

Happy Tuesday, Bookworms!

It’s the last day of June. As we head into the second half of 2020 I’m both excited but concerned.

Excited, because summer reading is happening and I have a lot of great titles on my list. Also, of the positive changes being made to make a more equal society for the black and pride communities.

Concerned, because the virus continues to rampage the country and that there’s still no unified front (wearing masks, social distancing, etc) to tackle this major health crisis.

So it’s been a tenuous month with a mix of bookish goodness. Here’s my wrap-up for June:

This month I read 18 books total and posted 7 reviews:

Becoming Brianna by Terri Libenson | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Queen’s Resistance by Rebecca Ross | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Days by Tsuyoshi Yasuda (Vol. 1-7) | ⭐⭐⭐⭐
By A Thread by Lucy Score | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Nabari No Ou by Yuhki Kamatani (Vol. 1-3) | ⭐⭐⭐⭐
When We Are Kind by Monique Gray Smith, Illust. by Nicole Neidhardt | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Entangled Secrets by Pat Esden | ⭐⭐⭐⭐

My favorite read hands down was By A Thread (review). It was a long book. But I could not stop reading and finished in a few days. It was amazing! I also did a reread of the entire The Betrayal Knows My Name manga series, which was a lot of fun.

I also wanted to share some of the blog posts I enjoyed reading this month. I think I decided to do this halfway through June. I’d seen it done before by other bloggers and thought maybe doing it too or something similar. A kind of nod of appreciation to your fellow book bloggers. Here are my top picks:

Where Are All The Fathers In YA Books? (A Look At My 2020 Reads)| Pages Unbound Reviews
Where To (Legally) Get Free E-Books| Reads And Thoughts
Bookshelf Tour| The Book Corps
Alternatives To Goodreads| Kristin Kraves Books
How To Save Money On Books| Soph’s Book World
Good Morning| Susan Loves Books
Review: Shades of Magic, Vol. 1: The Steel Prince| Jill’s Book Blog
Weekend Reads #106: On the Assumption That White Means Universal| Zezee with Books
Review | Heartsong by TJ Klune” | Birdie Bookworm

Most notable the abundance of book recommendations for books by black and queer authors from both communities and beyond. A few interesting books I’ve added are:

All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson
Blended by Sharon M. Draper
Bonds of Brass by Emily Skrutskie
Heartstopper, Vol. 1 by Alice Oseman
In the Role of Brie Hutchens… by Nicole Melleby
Legendborn by Tracy Deonn (currently reading)
Out Now: Queer We Go Again! by Saundra Mitchell
Smash It! by Francina Simone (ARC)
Something To Talk About by Meryl Wilsner

I loved how the book community and book publishers and outlets came together to lift up these voices that deserve to be heard and help bring their stories to light. And I hope this continues beyond our pages.

And, finally, I participated in the cover reveal for Gilded Serpent by Donna Grant, book 3 of the Dark Shores series.

So that was my June 2020. How was your reading month? What were some of your favorite books? What own voices did you add to your TBR list? Let me know in the comments below!

Happy Reading!

Totally agree that it’s very concerning the mixed messages we’ve been receiving regarding corona and wearing a mask and all.
