I need more Narwhal and Jelly in my life! I can’t wait to be reunited with them in Narwhal’s School of Awesome by Ben Clanton.

Look how awesome the cover is for book 6! This is definitely my favorite of the series. As always, the premise is super cute and I’m eager to read what awesome knowledge Narwhal has to share with the world. He is such an adorable character and incredibly sweet. Jelly is very pragmatic and a good friend, and I love him to bits. I’m sure they both will make great teachers!

Waiting On Wednesday – July 14, 2021

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where you spotlight a highly anticipated book.

Happy Wednesday, Bookworms!

This week I am waiting on the release of A Swift and Savage Tide by Chloe Neill.

I did enjoy book 1 – it was nearly a 5 star read! But to be honest, despite how highly action-packed the story was there weren’t any real challenges, failures, or setbacks for the main characters. So while I’m looking forward to reading A Swift and Savage Tide – one of my most anticipated 2021 sequels – I do have some minor apprehension.

I love Kit and that she’s a young, female Captain of her own ship in service to an equally strong Queendom in a male dominated world. Kit and Rian are so cute together. The slow burn of their romance is building exquisitely.

A Swift and Savage Tide is set to be released November 30, 2021.

Image via Goodreads

ABOUT: Captain Kit Brightling is Aligned to the magic of the sea, which makes her an invaluable asset to the Saxon Isles and its monarch, Queen Charlotte. The Isles and its allies will need every advantage they can get: Gerard Rousseau, the former Gallic emperor and scourge of the Continent, has escaped his island prison to renew his quest for control of the Continent.

Gerard has no qualms about using dangerous magic to support his ambitions, so Kit and the crew of her ship, the Diana, are the natural choice to find him—and help stop him. Sparks fly when Kit’s path unexpectedly crosses with that of the dashing and handsome Rian Grant, Viscount Queenscliffe, who’s working undercover on the Continent in his own efforts to stop Gerard. But he’s not the only person Kit is surprised to see. An old enemy has arisen, and the power he’ll wield on Gerard’s behalf is beautiful and terrible. Sparks will fly and sails will flutter as Kit and crew are cast onto the seas of adventure to fight for queen and country.

Happy Wednesday, Bookworms!

I am on the edge of my seat for the release of The Righteous by Renée Ahdieh.

The previous book was really good but ended with a huge cliffhanger due to something I nearly forgot about. It was a game-changer for some characters, so I’m very curious of what the fallout will be in book 3.

The fact that The Righteous will be from Pippa and Arjun’s POVs also has me curious and thrilled because we are going to get to learn more about these two interesting characters.

I am so hooked on this series! Also the cover is gorgeous!

The Righteous is set to be released November 9, 2021.

ABOUT: Pippa Montrose is tired of losing everything she loves. When her best friend Celine disappears under mysterious circumstances, Pippa resolves to find her, even if the journey takes her into the dangerous world of the fae, where she might find more than she bargained for in the charismatic Arjun Desai.

Waiting On Wednesday – May 12, 2021

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where you spotlight a highly anticipated book.

Happy Wednesday, Bookworms!

An upcoming release I am looking forward to is The [Un]Popular Vote by Jasper Sanchez.

This story has 5-star-read-new-favorite-book potential. I love the premise and am already rooting for Mark, our trans main character. I’m anticipating an emotional rollarcoaster of feelings. Also, the cover is simple but so colorful and wonderful – I love it!

The [Un]Popular Vote will be published June 1, 2021.

Image via NetGalley

ABOUT: Vaseline on the teeth makes a smile shine. It’s a cheap stunt, but Mark Adams knows it’s optics that can win or ruin an election.

Everything Mark learned about politics, he learned from his father, the congressman who still pretends he has a daughter and not a son. To protect his father’s image, Mark promises to keep his past hidden and pretend to be the cis guy everyone assumes he is. But when he sees a manipulatively charming candidate for student body president inflame dangerous rhetoric, Mark decides to risk the low profile he assured his father and insert himself as a political challenger.

One big problem? No one really knows Mark. He didn’t grow up in this town, and he has few friends; plus, the ones he does have aren’t exactly with the in-crowd. Still, thanks to countless seasons of Scandal and The West Wing, these nerds know where to start: from campaign stops to voter polling to a fashion makeover. Soon Mark feels emboldened to get in front of and engage with voters—and even start a new romance. But with an investigative journalist digging into his past, a father trying to silence him, and a bully front-runner who stands in his way, Mark will have to decide which matters most: perception or truth, when both are just as dangerous.

Waiting On Wednesday – April 28, 2021

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where you spotlight a highly anticipated book.

Happy Wednesday, Bookworms!

I am supremely happy for Terri Libenson‘s next book, Truly Tyler, starring Tyler from the Emmie & Friends series!

Libenson’s books are a joy to read. She has such a unique, artistic way of telling the story. With each book I feel we get real, likable characters with realistic problems. Her graphic novels are always filled with humor and delightful illustrations.

I love that Tyler is getting his own book. It’s a great change of pace and I definitely will be reading this one asap.

Truly Tyler hits shelves on May 4, 2021.

Image via Goodreads

ABOUT: A story about being your truest self—and trusting your truest friends—from bestselling author Terri Libenson. Perfect for fans of Raina Telgemeier and Shannon Hale.

Cliques. Crushes. Comics. Middle school.

Ever since Tyler started getting into art and hanging out with Emmie, his friends and teammates have been giving him a hard time. He wonders why can’t he nerd out on drawing and play ball?

Emmie is psyched that she gets to work on a comics project with her crush, Tyler. But she gets the feeling that his friends don’t think she’s cool enough. Maybe it’s time for a total reinvention.

Waiting On Wednesday – April 21, 2021

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where you spotlight a highly anticipated book.

Happy Wednesday, Bookworms!

A highly anticipated book I want to spotlight this week is Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard.

The only book by Victoria Aveyard that I’ve read is Red Queen and never finished the series. But I really enjoyed Red Queen and loved how masterfully Aveyard told the story, constructed the world, and crafted her characters. Maybe I’ll have better luck finishing this upcoming series because it sounds like a fantastic read!

I like stories of the ordinary discovering they’re extraordinary and double like that we get a contrasting group of secondary characters to aid the MC. The whole premise is enticing. The cover is stunning in gold. And I’m very intrigued by the hand gripping the sword by the blade. Realm Breaker was an instant-add to my wish list.

This YA fantasy is set to be released May 4, 2021.

Image via Goodreads

ABOUT: A strange darkness grows in Allward.

Even Corayne an-Amarat can feel it, tucked away in her small town at the edge of the sea.

She soon discovers the truth: She is the last of an ancient lineage—and the last hope to save the world from destruction. But she won’t be alone. Even as darkness falls, she is joined by a band of unlikely companions:

A squire, forced to choose between home and honor.
An immortal, avenging a broken promise.
An assassin, exiled and bloodthirsty.
An ancient sorceress, whose riddles hide an eerie foresight.
A forger with a secret past.
A bounty hunter with a score to settle.

Together they stand against a vicious opponent, invincible and determined to burn all kingdoms to ash, and an army unlike anything the realm has ever witnessed.

Waiting On Wednesday – 3/24/21

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where you spotlight a highly anticipated book.

Happy Wednesday, Bookworms!

This is a bittersweet Waiting On Wednesday as the book I am looking forward to reading is the final of its series: An Incurable Case of Love by Maki Enjōji (Volume 7).

This cute manga series has been addicting though not without its ups and downs. I love the gruff Dr. Tendo and hard-working Nanase (aka Valiant One). Their growing relationship has been a rocky one, but I have high hopes for this final volume. The two have undeniable chemistry. Just look at them on the adorable cover – it makes my heart so happy!

Volume 7 is set to be released on April 6, 2021.

ABOUT: Nurse Nanase has striven to once again meet the prince of her dreams, so how is it he’s become such an aggravating doctor?!

After witnessing a handsome and charming young doctor saving a stranger’s life five years ago, Nanase Sakura trained to become a nurse. But when she meets the doctor again and they start working together, she finds Kairi Tendo to be nothing like the man she imagined him to be!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where you spotlight a highly anticipated book.

Happy Wednesday, Bookworms!

I am beyond exciting for my #1 most anticipated releases of 2021: Fairytales from Verania by TJ Klune (Tales From Verania 4.5).

This new title is a short story collection. The cover art by Reese Dante is so gorgeous! 💚 I’m predicting another 5-star read with all the awesomeness, humor, and heart that comes with any Klune book.

Fairytales from Verania is set to be released April 27, 2021.

Image via Goodreads

ABOUT: New York Times bestselling author TJ Klune invites you back to the land of Verania in a new collection of short stories starring the beloved characters from the Tales of Verania series.

In the opening story—The Unicorn in the Tower—Gary is a princess trapped in a stone tower by the evil Lady Tina DeSilva, who plans on sacrificing him on the first full moon after his eighteenth birthday. With help from his friends—a bird named Tiggy and a mangy weasel called Sam—Gary interviews potential suitors to rescue him and love him above all others, as he so rightly deserves.

The Unicorn in the Tower is followed by Sam and the Beanstalk, wherein a poor farm boy exchanges his family’s bull for magical beans and the promise of treasure in the sky. But when he climbs the beanstalk, Sam finds things are not as he expected them to be.

The Good Boy sees Todd and his immaculate ears taking center stage. When Todd’s father dies, he leaves his son in the care of his evil stepmother and two stepsiblings who live to make Todd’s life a living hell. It’s not until the household receives an invitation to attend a ball for the mysterious Sir that Todd begins to wish for a life beyond what he knows.

David’s Dragon, the final—and only canonical—tale, is set a thousand years before the rise of the Dark wizard Myrin. It begins simply: a lonely boy in a small village befriends a dragon. What follows is a story of love and sacrifice, hope and heartbreak, and what it means to earn your place amongst the stars.

Welcome back to Verania. It’s going to be a hell of a ride.

I already adore this book because it takes us back into the wondrous world of one of my all-time favorite series, Tales From Verania. 😊

Waiting On Wednesday – 2/10/21

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where you spotlight a highly anticipated book.

Happy Wednesday, Bookworms!

One of my most anticipated books of 2021 is The Dating Plan by Sara Desai, which will be published March 16 from Berkley Books.

The cover for this book is so pretty! I love that Daisy, one of the main characters, is a software engineer. This rom-com also has two tropes I like to read about: one, where the main character creates a plan/rules but gets more than they expected throughout the process, and, two, faking dating (or in the book’s case, fake fiance).

Image via NetGalley

ABOUT: Even with a step-by-step plan, these fake fiances might accidentally fall for each other in this hilarious, heartfelt romantic comedy from the author of The Marriage Game.

Daisy Patel is a software engineer who understands lists and logic better than bosses and boyfriends. With her life all planned out, and no interest in love, the one thing she can’t give her family is the marriage they expect. Left with few options, she asks her childhood crush to be her decoy fiance.

Liam Murphy is a venture capitalist with something to prove. When he learns that his inheritance is contingent on being married, he realizes his best friend’s little sister has the perfect solution to his problem. A marriage of convenience will get Daisy’s matchmaking relatives off her back and fulfill the terms of his late grandfather’s will. If only he hadn’t broken her tender teenage heart nine years ago…

Sparks fly when Daisy and Liam go on a series of dates to legitimize their fake relationship. Too late, they realize that very little is convenient about their arrangement. History and chemistry aren’t about to follow the rules of this engagement.

Happy Wednesday, Bookworms!

Although released yesterday, I can’t wait to read Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston (Balzer + Bray), one of my top anticipated 2021 releases.

This middle grade fantasy is the author’s debut, book 1 of a series. The cover is beautifully blue and gorgeous! I am dazzled by the synopsis. I have a good feeling this will be come an instant favorite and 5-star read.

Image via Goodreads

ABOUT: Artemis Fowl meets Men in Black in this exhilarating debut middle grade fantasy, the first in a trilogy filled with #blackgirlmagic. Perfect for fans of Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky, the Percy Jackson series, and Nevermoor.

Amari Peters has never stopped believing her missing brother, Quinton, is alive. Not even when the police told her otherwise, or when she got in trouble for standing up to bullies who said he was gone for good.

So when she finds a ticking briefcase in his closet, containing a nomination for a summer tryout at the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs, she’s certain the secretive organization holds the key to locating Quinton—if only she can wrap her head around the idea of magicians, fairies, aliens, and other supernatural creatures all being real.

Now she must compete for a spot against kids who’ve known about magic their whole lives. No matter how hard she tries, Amari can’t seem to escape their intense doubt and scrutiny—especially once her supernaturally enhanced talent is deemed “illegal.” With an evil magician threatening the supernatural world, and her own classmates thinking she’s an enemy, Amari has never felt more alone. But if she doesn’t stick it out and pass the tryouts, she may never find out what happened to Quinton.
