Bookish Memes Down the TBR Hole

Down The TBR Hole

Happy Thursday, Bookworms!

According to Goodreads I have 498 books on my “to-read” shelf. I am constantly adding books to that list, which means some books get lost in all the bookish goodness. Doing the Down The TBR Hole post was very much needed.

Down The TBR Hole is a meme that is hosted by Lia @Lost in a Story and revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

Here’s how it works:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopsis of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

First, Bonded to the Bear by Fay Walsh

REMOVE – I’m not as interested in this title as I was originally.

Second, Everless by Sara Holland

KEEP – Beautiful cover with a great hook (“time is currency”). Sounds like a tense but daring story.

Third, The Prince’s Romance Gambit by Nikki Asada

REMOVE – Cute cover but I’m okay with removing this one. I just need a bit more from the synopsis to persuade me to read it.

Fourth, Relic by Bronwyn Eley

KEEP – I’m intrigued by the premise, the main character is a blacksmith, there are rebel forces, and it’s a YA fantasy trilogy. That’s more than enough for me and I want to read more trilogies.

Fifth, Stormrise by Jillian Boehme

KEEP – It’s a YA fantasy “Mulan” retelling with definite Tamora Pierce vibes. “Mulan” is one of my favorite Disney movies, so that’s a win. There will be dragons – my favorite magical creature. AND this is a standalone fantasy novel – yes, please!

Sixth, Tell Me It’s Real by TJ Klune

KEEP – I love all things TJ Klune despite him crushing my heart and making me fall even more in love with his stories with every book. But I’m only kind of interested in this one at the moment. Enough to keep it on the list but not in a rush to read.

Seventh, Tiger Queen by Annie Sullivan

REMOVE – Not interested anymore, plus I don’t think I would enjoy this book.

Out of the 7 books I mentioned, I kept 4 and removed 3. An okay turnout. I’m going to try to do this more frequently. While you can never have enough books to read, sometimes our to-read lists can be overwhelming.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great day!

And, as always, happy reading!

Down the TBR Hole – 7/13/20

Happy Monday, Bookworms!

I hope you all had a good weekend 😊

I need to do a bit of cleanup of my TBR because I have no shelf control. So I’m doing the Down The TBR Hole meme, seeing what I want to keep or remove.

Down The TBR Hole is hosted by Lia @Lost in a Story. The goal is to clean your TBR of books you’re never going to read.

Directions:
⦁ Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.

⦁ Order on ascending date added.

⦁ Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.

⦁ Read the synopses of the books

⦁ Decide: keep it or should it go?

Fish In A Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt – KEEP

I still like the premise of this story, especially if there is representation for those with learning disabilities. Sounds like a great middle grade story.

Dealing With Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede – REMOVE

I’m no longer interested even though I love dragons. I did enjoy her Mairelon duology though. So maybe not this story but perhaps another story of hers in the future.

Salt For Air by M.C. Frank – REMOVE

No longer interested. I don’t even remember why I added it to my tbr.

The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl by Stacy McAnulty – REMOVE

There’s a unique aspect of this story that I’m drawn to but I don’t think I want to read it anymore.

Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson – KEEP

Beautiful cover. I think this story has a lot of potential to be an epic read, so I’ll keep it for now.

Down the TBR Hole – 1/29/20

Happy Wednesday, Bookworms!

The first month of 2020 is almost over, so I thought it’d be fun to do this meme. I’ve added several books to my tbr so cleaning up my tbr shelf is a must!

Down The TBR Hole is hosted by Lia @Lost in a Story. The goal is to clean your TBR of books you’re never going to read.

Here’s how it works:

⦁ Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.

For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund
For Darkness Shows the Stars #1

KEEP

I’ve had this book on my TBR for years and it still sounds like a good read. I just don’t know when I’ll get to reading it. I’m not interested enough to read it like yesterday but still interested enough to not want to remove it.

Prophecy Accepted by Tamar Sloan
Prime Prophecy #2

REMOVE

I don’t see myself finishing this series, which is sad because I did really enjoy book 1. I guess I’ve just lost interest. But I’d recommend book 1 to anyone who likes YA Paranormal Romance and wolf shifters.

A Possibility of Whales by Karen Rivers

KEEP

I still want to read this book. It’s a quick read and sounds like a really good MG LGBTQ+ novel.

Image via Goodreads

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Six of Crows #1

KEEP

I will still give this one a try. She’s a big one so that’s a little intimidating. Also there are several POVs which shouldn’t be a problem but…eh I don’t know. Excuses, excuses. I probably will just read book 1 unless I absolutely fall in love and need to know more.

Wishtree by Katherine Applegate

REMOVE

Sounds interesting and sad; like The Giving Tree sad. I’m not interested in reading it anymore though.

Image via Goodreads

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

KEEP

I originally put this book on my TBR because I wanted to read a retelling at the time. I just never got around to reading it. I definitely want to make time to read it this year.

Down the TBR Hole

Good day, Bookworms!

Today I’m doing my first Down the TBR Hole meme. Down The TBR Hole is hosted by Lia @Lost in a Story. The goal is to clean your TBR of books you’re never going to read.

Here’s how it works:

⦁ Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.

⦁ Order on ascending date added.

Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.

Read the synopses of the books

⦁ Decide: keep it or should it go?

Battle Magic by Tamora Pierce
The Circle Reforged #3

KEEP

I’m 75% sure I want to keep this book but I’m also unsure if, all all this time, that I won’t enjoy it as much I thought I would all those years ago. I’ll reevaluate this book next time I do this meme.

River of Dreams by Lynn Kurland
A Novel of the Nine Kingdoms #8

REMOVE

The series just isn’t the same anymore. Possibly around book 5 or 6 was when I started slowly losing interest. I love Lynn Kurlands books but I think I’m okay with not finishing this series. I would go back in read the first three books though – I really loved them.

Shadowstorm by Dianne Sylvan
Shadow World #6

KEEP

I’m still interested in reading more of this series but I need to do it soon because the magic is starting to fade. If more months go by and I still have’t caught up, then I’ll more than likely remove it from my TBR.

Siege of Shadows by Sarah Raughley
Effigies #2

REMOVE

I don’t think I want to continue this trilogy. Not because book 1 was bad – book 1 was really good. I just don’t think I can bring myself to finish. It’s too much.

Thirteen Rising by Romina Russell
Zodiac #4

KEEP

I need to finish this series because it’s so good. I have this book on my next book haul I’m doing. I’m positive it’s going to be a good read and need to stop putting off reading it.

As of this post, I have 163 books on my “to-read” shelf on Goodreads. From this post I’ve decided to keep 3 and remove 2 books.

AS ALWAYS, HAPPY READING!!!
