Manga I Want to Start Collecting

What’s something you like to collect (bookish or non-bookish)?

Collecting manga is extremely satisfying. When you look at all of the volumes on shelves, it’s row after row of perfectly symmetrical books.

Beside the visual satisfaction there’s the wonderful stories themselves, amazing artwork, complex plots, and endearing characters. Many of these series have an anime adaptations. Most of the manga I have read I’d already seen the anime.

Currently, I own 85 volumes across 11 different series in various stages of completion and soon to be published.

I’ve been lucky enough that the library I go to has a really good manga section, so I’ve been able to save a lot of money. Manga is affordable since they come in paperback or ebooks. So I usually buy in bulk mostly because they’re easy to read through very quickly. But between getting these volumes and also having a ton of other books I want to get, collecting (and reading) manga can be slow going. Patience is truly a virtue.

At the moment, there are a few series I want to start collecting. I mentioned in my last  book haul, I finally started collecting the phenomenal Haikyu!! by Haruichi Furudate. I’m caught up on the anime, so I can take my time with collecting this particular series.

Haikyu!! Vol. 1 Synopsis: Shoyo Hinata is out to prove that in volleyball you don’t need to be tall to fly!

Ever since he saw the legendary player known as “the Little Giant” compete at the national volleyball finals, Shoyo Hinata has been aiming to be the best volleyball player ever! Who says you need to be tall to play volleyball when you can jump higher than anyone else?

After losing his first and last volleyball match against Tobio Kageyama, “the King of the Court,” Shoyo Hinata swears to become his rival after graduating middle school. But what happens when the guy he wants to defeat ends up being his teammate?! (review)

The next series I want to continue collecting is Spy x Family by Tatsuya Endo: funny, action-packed, and all the feels. I’m not sure what’s going on but I think the volumes 1-5 are currently out of print or sold out. I couldn’t find any information to verify that except dates on Barnes & Noble that might indicate when they’ll be back in print. Again, just a guess, can’t confirm. You can still get e-copies, but I prefer reading manga (graphic novels in general) in print because it’s easy to read the small font. So right now it’s a waiting game for more Spy x Family shenanigans.

Spy x Family Vol. 1 Synopsis: Not one to depend on others, Twilight has his work cut out for him procuring both a wife and a child for his mission to infiltrate an elite private school. What he doesn’t know is that the wife he’s chosen is an assassin and the child he’s adopted is a telepath! (review)

Another series I want to collect is Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun by Izumi Tsubaki, a hilarious high school rom-com I adore. Besides a hilarious unrequited love story you meet other equally charming characters. This series never fails to make me laugh and smile.

Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kin Vol. 1 Synopsis: The boy of her dreams…is a girl’s manga artist?!To the eyes of high school student Chiyo Sakura, classmate Umetarou Nozaki–brawny of build and brusque of tongue–is a dreamboat! When Chiyo finally works up the courage to tell Nozaki how she feels about him, she knows rejection is on the table…but getting recruited as a manga-ka’s assistant?! Never in a million years! But for someone who makes a living drawing sweet girly romances, Nozaki-kun is a little slow on the uptake when it comes to matters of the heart in reality. And so Chiyo’s daily life of manga making and heartache begins!

Haikyu!!, Spy x Family, and Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun are at the top of my list of manga I want to start collecting. Maybe 2021 will be my head start to all this.

My Manga Collection

Happy Monday, Bookworms!

Do you read manga? If so, what are some of your favorites?

I love reading manga and hope to have a huge library of it in the future. Pictured is my manga collection that I began buying back in 2018. It’s not much but it’s slowly growing.

I own The Betrayal Knows My Name (completed), Snow White With The Red Hair (ongoing), The Royal Tutor (ongoing | 12 of 13), An Incurable Case of Love (ongoing | 1 of 3), He’s My Only Vampire (completed), Devils & Realist (completed), Yona of the Dawn (ongoing | 3 of 23), and Backstage Prince (completed). I’ve read way more manga than what’s pictured.

Manga I’d like to own someday that I haven’t read yet are Days and Haikyu!!. Of series I’ve already read and loved, I’d want Fruits Basket, Special A, and Black Butler.

See my page “Book Reviews by Genre” the first section listed for my reviews of most of these titles.

What’s great about manga you get to binge-read a series, the artwork is exquisite and lively, the stories make you feel all the feels, the price per volumes is relatively cheap, and much that is published has likely been made into an anime.

Have a great day, everyone!!!
