Goodreads Summary: In the realm of Talamh, a teenage warrior named Keegan emerges from a lake holding a sword—representing both power and the terrifying responsibility to protect the Fey. In another realm known as Philadelphia, a young woman has just discovered she possesses a treasure of her own…

When Breen Kelly was a girl, her father would tell her stories of magical places. Now she’s an anxious twentysomething mired in student debt and working a job she hates. But one day she stumbles upon a shocking discovery: her mother has been hiding an investment account in her name. It has been funded by her long-lost father—and it’s worth nearly four million dollars.

This newfound fortune would be life-changing for anyone. But little does Breen know that when she uses some of the money to journey to Ireland, it will unlock mysteries she couldn’t have imagined. Here, she will begin to understand why she kept seeing that silver-haired, elusive man, why she imagined his voice in her head saying Come home, Breen Siobhan. It’s time you came home. My Review: This was an incredible magical first book of a trilogy. In The Awakening, Nora Roberts takes everything you could ever love about fantasy to new romantic heights. My first Nora Roberts book was enchanting and I’m left utterly wanting more!

Roberts paints a beautifully vivid picture of Ireland’s breathtaking landscapes. I fell in love with the otherworldly places Breen ventures to. I loved the lgbtq+ neighborhood in Philadelphia where Breen lives – you could really feel how at home Breen felt there compared to the home she grew up in. The whole book was skillfully written.

I love Breen and could connect with her feelings of inadequacy and deep yearning to find herself. I enjoyed getting to know the Real Breen and couldn’t help but revel in her joy and sympathize with her sadness. I found myself on more than one occasion inspired by her passions and drive. And I absolutely adore her found friends/family of Marco, Sally and Derrick.

The alluring realm of Talamh is a simple and practical place. I kind of wished to live in the same warm solace the denizens of Talamh enjoy every day too. It’s full of magical creatures of all kinds and exists much differently than past books I’ve read involving fey, which I liked.

This was a very extensive opening with a lot of world building and character growth enclosed with a gorgeous cover. The Awakening really set the stage for more magic and wonder, for Breen to truly be tested and come into her destiny.

Breen must find a balance between love, family and duty to truly find her place in the world. I wish I could read book 2 now because The Awakening was a superb story and feelings.
